Tallink passenger number slides 15% in January

ESTONIA: Estonian listed ferry group Tallink said it transported 491,393 passengers in January 2010 which is a 15% decrease compared to January 2009. The number of trucks and trailers decreased by 19.2% to 16,061 units in January 2010.

The company said its operations were affected by the maintenance works of Superfast vessels and cargo vessel Sea Wind. Thus there were no operations on the Germany-Finland route and the cargo capacity was smaller in the Finland Sweden operations. On a comparable basis, excluding the above operational changes the like for like growth in cargo units was 1%.

The number of passengers was down 98.2% in Finland-Germany line (to 119 passengers), 31.3% in Estonia-Sweden line (51,815), 18.1% in Finland-Sweden line (187,724), 8.5% in Estonia-Finland line (218,263) and increased only in Latvia-Sweden line (14.6% or 33,472 passengers).
